Students Rebuilding Health in Rwanda Coffeehouse 2012

Last Tuesday on January 31st 2012 the Students Rebuilding Health in Rwanda (SRHIR) council hosted a coffeehouse in the Mustang Student Lounge. The night was a great success! The coffeehouse included a variety of performances; original band performances, well known songs were sung and played on various instruments. To make things even more interesting, we had a guest appearance from WOOF’s dance pack as well as a beatbox collaboration with two very talented beatboxers. Members of the community came out to support the cause by sharing unique poetry verses. Students belonging to the music faculty show cased their amazing talent.  (Check out some snippets of our performances in our next post!) To top it off, a video featuring Jean Baptiste, the student that received the money raised by SRHIR was broadcasted that night as a thank you to all supporters! Michael Davison the VP awareness member on the SRHIR council made a speech as a tribute to the people of Rwanda to raise awareness followed by the President of SRHIR Jess Liao’s thank you speech thanking everyone for all their support.

Thanks to everyone for the amazing turnout!

Coffee, hot chocolate and SRHIR vibrant green t-shirts were sold throughout the night to contribute to the donation fund. A raffle was also organized and several students claimed great prizes as a bonus! The SRHIR coffeehouse was no doubt a great success. On behalf of the executive council we would like to thank all faculty members, volunteers, performers and students that helped facilitate the event. We hope to see you back for another amazing evening next year. Stay tuned for details on our upcoming event – Rwanda Day which will be host on March 8th 2012 in the UCC!
